MEET ANKITA GUPTA – CONVERTING CHALLENGES INTO OPPORTUNITIES

Jul 6, 2021 | Faces of FieldCore

Meet Ankita A Gupta, Resource Management, she manages Field Engineers in South Asia which is part of the larger APAC region. She joined GE in 2012 transitioned to FieldCore in 2017.

What are your top 5 values? Are you (honestly!) living those values every day?

Integrity – High say-do ratio
Self-awareness – Regular SWOT analysis
Positive thinking – Finding a silver lining
Solution mindset – Always be a part of the solution
Adaptability – Survival technique

In your line of work, what motivates you to do your very best? What part of your work still gets you excited? What has defined or shaped your career as of this point? And on the flipside, have you faced challenges that you hindered you in your line of work? What have you done to overcome them?

Feedback from my field employees is the most rewarding part of my job. Of course, there are various business metrices that indicate the success of my performance which is motivating in itself. But it makes me sleep better, if I am sure that my team is safe in the field, comfortable enough to leave their families behind for weeks/months at a stretch and are excited to do the job assigned to them.

I strongly believe that self-awareness, taking on challenges head-on and my ability to adapt to changes has eventually landed me where I am.

Challenges would always be there, but how you convert them to opportunities will define you. The famous saying ‘When life gives you lemons, make lemonade’ is my mantra. So eventually, the hurdles always seem like a detour that life threw at you to take you to a better destination.

On a lighter note, at this very moment, what do you want most? What non-work-related goal have you put for yourself this year? How do you plan on pursuing this?

At this very moment, my want is like a lot of others around the world … to be safe & healthy and get back to what was ‘normal’ about a year ago. I want to step out and play with my kid in the open spaces, see him play with other kids, socialize in person rather than via web cams, travel across countries & I want to do all that without the fear of catching a deadly virus!

but given the current situation, I’ve slightly adjusted my goals to the ones that are more realistic! Regular physical activity, maintaining healthy food habits, Regular meditation & trying my hands-on baking are the top 4! Getting myself a new Fitbit tracker was my first step towards achieving my goals. Visualizing my goals motivates me! Its been 3 months & I’m able to stick to my daily goals, so I think I’m on the right track. YouTube is a blessing for all amateur bakers like me, so that’s going well too … the smell of freshly baked bread is so delish!

Has it been difficult to pursue your personal goals while working? How do you balance that apart from your busy schedule? What is your top recommendation for anyone on how to find that work-life balance?

I think when we try to treat our personal & professional lives in a sequential manner, is when we miss out on one or the other. I’ve always treated them as equally important parallel paths.

I wouldn’t say it was easy but balancing the two is the key to happiness overall. I am selfish that ways. My goal has been to be happy and I always knew I wouldn’t be happy if I was not successful in either of my parallel lives.

The most critical thing is to be very sure of what ‘success’ means to YOU. Never compare or compete with others on those parameters. Never try to live someone else’s life. Success varies for every individual. Define it, believe in it & own it. And then do whatever it takes to make that happen. If it’s a goal that you set for yourself, it would never feel like an effort to reach it.

Decisions, decisions decisions!!! Balancing the personal & professional life is constantly making decisions about what needs more of your attention at that point of time. So again, being sure of what you want to achieve, will have you win the battle half-way through already.

What would be the 3 defining words that would describe who you are and how do you see this shaping your future?

Go-getter. Dependable. Mother

The clarity & the conviction of reaching out for my goals defines my existence and I’m sure it will continue to do so in future as well. We are social beings & taking people along is the only way to rise & lead.

Being a parent changes you for the better; challenges you physical & mental tenacity to the extent that makes you appreciate your own self lot more than ever. So, I look forward to a brighter, shinier & a happier future for myself.
