THE LOVE FOR THE FIELD BEGINS AT HOME – MEET LIVIA SILVA

Livia Silva always knew her life would take her down the road of engineering. Her father, a Field Engineer who worked on the installation of the major hydro power plants in Latin America, took her to her first power plant when she was six years old. She remembers her dad giving her the first safety moment of her life “be careful with the big hole” which was the generator pit. She grew up admiring his profession, that literally involved providing power to people as well as his ongoing courage to stay out in the field for extended periods of time to support his family. This admiration and respect for his profession strongly influenced her academic and career choices.

Following his footsteps, she graduated from Sao Paulo University in 2002 obtaining a Mechanical Engineering degree. Her career started with an internship at Alstom followed by an array of different roles including Customer Service Manager for Power Plant Services (Alstom) and Life Cycle Leader Americas (Power Services) at GE.

In 2017 Livia took the role of Resource Director LATAM and turned it around completely. When she joined, there were a lot of challenges, especially in terms of the regional HR capacity. Under her lead, LATAM region has increased its field population by 40% having opened the door to the promising new generation of field talent, including 30 very engaged female engineers. “We could only turn around LATAM by creating a culture of inclusion where the field felt heard and understood what the game plan was. Today we are no longer ‘legacy this legacy that’, we are a true FieldCore family with the field front and center of any discussion and decision we take as a resource team,” she says.

Her team is very united. They all work toward the same goal and acknowledge that Livia has been a key player in LATAM’s success. “Under Livia’s leadership we’ve adapted quickly gaining stability as a team. She’s worked very hard to create an inclusive team by hiring more women, a change that has been accepted by everyone with respect and motivation, achieving good bases so that this policy can be maintained in the long term reinforcing our value of integrity,” states Miranda Marrazzo, Field Engineer.

Without a doubt, Livia’s expertise has been a great asset for the Latin America team. She managed to overcome numerous challenges creating a team of successful and experienced collaborators that continue to drive success for our company while maintaining World-Class Execution.
